Are Our Sisters Exploited ?

OPINION PIECE
By: Matthews Paseka Menyau
The Mr. and Miss residence was well organised, the crowd was entertained by good music. Some of the students also show cased their talents, in singing and dancing. The lighting and the sound equipment were of top quality, the masters of the ceremony also did their work very well. On the other hand ladies (audience) couldn’t stop cheering for the guys (contestants), while the guys (audience) also cheered for their favourite girl. But I felt disappointed when I saw my sisters, wearing transparent  lingeries instead of simple bikinies. Personally , I felt it was unethical and uncalled for, for the ladies to contest in their lingeries. To make things worse they wore bunny ears and knee high stalkings of cause, how can  I forget high hills. What happened to the tradition of beauty pergeants, where ladies wear simple bikinies?  I felt it was disrespectful and degrading for our sisters. One of the contestants was wearing a red lingerie, and I  was able to see through.
She probably didn’t have any  problem with that, because she was there to contest and she brought it herself. The most important thing is that, our sisters were exploited and from my point of view were made to wear like strippers, and I feel that their integrity and respect was compromised, all in the name of Mr. and Miss Residence. Instead of honouring the ladies, because it is after all, women’s month they chose to degrade them and insult their womanhood. What message does this send out,  about the organisers?
