Internet 2, Assignment 1. MP MENYAU

The South African media landscape gas gone under tromendous change as from 2008, many people since the have never looked back. They have embraced the online news, and adapted to change which was taking place in the media industry. The Online Journalism, came with good changes and it’s convinient, and it saves time, you can read it anywhere and at anytime. You get links which are easy to access, and the front pages are amazing, they upload pictures and videos, even though they have different ways of reporting about a story they still delever, and theire story priorotisation differ, they have different styles of writing, like the story that I have used as an example:

Ø  Fifa to probe match-fixing claims – Safa
The City Press article about the “Fifa probe match-fixing”, is a good article and quite long. It explains every single points and the facts are well presented, it has the 5w’s who, what, were, why and when. Which is what every good article should have, the placing of the article is very good as it takes two-thirds of the page, they have also used the champagne writing style, which says “you start with the most important information, then the boring information and  then you end  with the  least important”.
Ø  Fifa hunts for match-fixers
The Sowetanlive’s article about the “Fifa hunts for match-fixers” is a good article, a bit different from that of City Press, they used bold letters, size 24 New Times Roman, it’s big and it catches one’s attention. They have used a picture, which is quite good, the article is quite long, but has the relevant information. They have used the pyramid style of writing, which says “You start with the most important information, and end up with the least important information.” They have included the 5w’s and H.
Ø  Safa hands over Bafana 'match-fixing' to Fifa

The Sportlive’s article is also good, they have used pictures, the font is a bit small compared to the other newspapers, but they have played with words in a way that it catches your attention. They have also used the champagne style of writing; it allows them to include every detail, like any other article, they have included the 5w’s and H. The article takes two-thirds of the news paper, this shows the reporter had enough facts.
